Comment from Mehru Fitter 15 sept 2007 ambo sana!!! I would like to thank you and the other members of the Kisumuwala & District Group for honouring me with a presentation on Sunday 9th September 2007. I will cherish the framed certificate. My sister and I enjoyed ourselves thoroughly at the function, which we found to be very well-organised. The food was lovely and the company smashing. Mohamed Munir Rai was absolutely entertaining and needs to be congratulated for not forgetting his Swahili. The singers, who sang golden oldies, kept us thoroughly entertained. It was wonderful for me to see some of my ex-pupils. I know that each Kisumuwala is making a unique contribution to UK, our new motherland. However, I wonder if we can embark on a collective project that would make an impact on the national scene. The feedback from my table was that the entire function had been managed exceptionally well. Congratulations. I have also visited the website, which shows evidence of research. Once again, I thank you profusely for the presentation and wish you every success in all your future endeavours. Mehru Fitter
The Kisumu get-together(about once in two years) took place here in London at Kadwa Patidar Samaj Hall in Kenton on 9Th September 2007. The committee organising this event is led by chairman Mohamed Munir Rai, the treasurer is Gordhandas Patel MBE , Ranjanben Tank, Krutsna Buddhdev, Damjibhai Limbachia, Vinu Patel, Prabhu Shah and Dhanjibhai Tanna are other members. As you walk into the event there is sense of expectation and excitement--you just dont know whether the next person you see might be the one you are seeing after 35 or 40 years! Then when you do meet and reminisce-there is a feeling of nostalgia and paradise lost! It can be emotional! We saw teachers Man Singh and Mr. Jalota and a few others. Joginder Singh the Kenya rally driver was also there. Ajit Singh Panesar who probably has the greatest collection of old Hindi songs and who works for Sunrise Radio was also there. The Kisumu town engineer Mr. Agarwal was also present. There were hockey players and we remembered the tasty, 'mogo' and the buns that we used to get during recess at Kisumu Primary school---no where in the world have they tasted anywhere near so good! After the welcome speeches the names of 4 new recipients of MBE were announced. Kisumuwallas hold a record of achievements not matched by other Kenya towns or cities! The
following received the MBE: Kirit Patel -awarded 2005---Kirit has the largest number of private pharmacies in UK and Europe! Babubhai Sudra-awarded 2006 Mrs Snober Bhangu---daughter in law of late Shankardas-the great teacher-awarded 2006. All these people have achieved excel lance in their respective fields. The evening drew to a close with every one hoping to meet soon again. From my age group there was the other Nitin Mehta, Pankaj Shah, Ashok Mahindra, Kishore Derodra,Amit Jobanputra. Being in the same class and school there used to be a lot of confusion between me and the other Nitin-who was very clever and I was a backbencher upto lots of mischief! Quite often I used to get detention and not turn up saying that it was the other Nitin! In every field Kisunuwallas have excelled--I give a lot of credit to the primary education in Kenya-it is second to none. Nitin Mehta London, UK
